A small Warning on YN EX3 RT and Canon 430EX III RT

Just got a new canon 430 EX III RT. I was surprised to find a wireless master mode with some strange grouping settings (cannot find a Ratio options as in the 600 EXs).

Unfortunately I am writing this post to announce the world that as far as I see the unit is not compatible with the Yongnuo YN EX3 RT  transmitter. The unit can connect correctly to the other 600 EX RT but not the the new canon gem.

EDIT - the firmware 1.9 makes the trasmitter compatible with the flash.

Applicare un Aggiornamento di Android su un dispositivo Rootato (con root)

Sarò breve. Se avete un nexus gia con il root e vi arriva un aggiornamento di android OTA come è successo a me questi giorni c'è una grande probabilità che non sia possibile applicarlo. Tutto quello che otterrete sarà un robottino con la pancia all'aria... Questo dipende dalla recovery installata che non essendo quella di fabbrica non riconosce gli aggiornamenti.

Supponendo che voi abbiate gia fatto il root da soli ed abbiate anche conoscenza del comando "fastboot" la soluzione è molto più semplice di quello che pensate.

Basterà:

1) Scaricare l'immagine del vostro dispositivo da questo link per sicurezza scaricate quella della vostra distribuzione
2) Estrarre la recovery STOCK dall'immagine ufficiale (si chiama sempre recovery.img)
3) Entrare in modalità fastbook e flashare la recovery ufficiale con il comando

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

4) fare ripartire il dispositivo
5) Dare il consenso all'aggiornamento.

Questa volta l'aggiornamento procederà normalmente senza dare errori. Le applicazioni resteranno dove sono così come tutti i dati (anche se è sempre consigliato salvare i dati importanti prima di procedere a qualsiesi operazione del genere).

Se volete a questo punto potete flashare un altra recovery e bloccare il bootloader. ( approposito, questa applicazione è geniale https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker )

How to add your Android phone to your Google Print "Printer list"

It can happen that you mistakenly or on pourpose delete one or more of your phones from the Google Print service.

Unfortunately the instructions on how to add back your phone to the list are not in the google instructions.

This is a simple "how to" list

• If not present install "GOOGLE CHROME" on your device. You can accomplish this on multiple ways, i provided the link to the Play Store. 
• Open the application on the phone and then go to the settings screen
• When into settings tap on your Google Account name (your email usually).
• You should see a "Chrome to Mobile" item. Tap it to deselect. Tap again to select. 

In a few seconds your Android Phone should be listed into the available printers. When sending a page to a phone it will be rendered as a PDF; then you get a dialog to open the pdf files according to the apps you have already installed. If you close the dialog the pages are still available in the phone memory in the "download/ChromeSnapshots" folder. 

Speed comparison amongst browsers

Are you using the opera browser? Have you got the sensation it is slow rendering Facebook Pages?

I do. So I made a benchmark about javascript performance as most of the interface is now written in that language. Here are presented the results

So while Opera maybe is the browser for the intelligent people (Hoax) we can be assured it's not designed to be the browser for the fast ones reaching the third place in the most used browser list just a small gap ahead from the infamous internet explorer.

Having more than 1000 contacts on facebook does not improve the situation, I'm avaiting a new realease of Opera to keep it at least usable.

Five point Checklist: cabin luggage on a low cost flight.

This list will help you go through the insanity checks of a Low Fare carrier (companies such as Ryanair, Wizzair, Vueling, Easyjet...) It will help you save money and troubles.

1) ABOUT YOUR LUGGAGE: SIZE
We will start by the most obvious of the rules: check the cabin baggage / luggage policies!

Generally Speaking a Luggage with these sizes will do:  55cmx40cmx20cm 

If you didn't while booking you should at least check the baggage rules 1 week before your flight. If you don't have any available luggage that fits the requirements get out and buy one NOW! It' better safe than sorry. Here is a list of the requirements they impose on you (Summer 2012)

• WIZZAIR (Experimental Policy) - 42x32x25cm - 10Kg - 60€/51£

You don't want to be milked at the gate! As they usually don't take no cash and some debit cards you could also be denied your flight.

2) ABOUT YOUR LUGGAGE: WEIGHT

Theoretically you are requested to fit all your goods in the luggage and it should be under the maximum weight which is 10Kg on most low-fares.

The luggage weight is checked only on same airports! British airports have the strickest checks on luggage (both size and weight). If your flight includes england or other unknown destinations then you'd better be on the safe side and respect the limit.

You can weight your luggage with a small scale. Or you can use a person scale: just hold the luggage and then subtract your weight.

Workarounds: You're still allowed to be dressed on flights. No-one will mind if you hold your phone(s) in your pocket and/and have plenty of accessories in your coat's pockets. Also be sure to travel while wearing the most heavy and voluminous dresses, just go for it. You can dispose up to 3Kg of equipment this way while getting some free luggage space. A nice place shop for this kind of dresses is Decathlon.

3) ABOUT YOUR LUGGAGE: TYPE 

There are 2 kinds of people. People with soft luggages and people who pay the penalties.

Hard case luggages weight more, carry less and have a delicate weel system. A soft fabric trolley allows also for additional compression if requested to fit the luggage in the nazi-cage. A Rucksack can be even a better choice, having no weels and weighting less it has obvious advantages.

4) ABOUT YOUR LUGGAGE: PACKING UP.

As for packing your stuff inside the luggage, this is up to you. I found my favourite way is rolling things. I can roll 10 days of trip in the cabin allowance no problem and even fit my laptop. If you have no idea of what I am talking about check these videos about packing up

Additional Tip. When Packing you want to be sure you leave things you're going to use on the plane on a top layer so they are easily accessible during the flight. It could also be a nice addition to cover electronics in a layer of soft dresses. Just in case you're requested to pass security check and you are above the limit remember to put on the top layer something you can take out and wear quickly in order to cheat (see point 2)

5) BLESSED ARE THE LAST FOR THEY SHALL BE THE FIRST!

When the other passengers are lining up for the plane, enjoy the moment! Sit down on a comfortable chair and relax while the queue stands countless minutes in anxious wait. When the boarding procedures are almost over (4 to 5 people still in the line) join them. You're now more rested and probably more likely to skip checks. If there is a BUS to the plane you may also get to be first to board! In those cases where there is not a plane try to get on by the rear exit, probably most people would be already seated and you're good to go.


ADDENDUM: ABOUT LOW FARES
By now you should know that these companies operate on a no-frills policy. Where no frills has to be read as "no-frills for you". When booking in advance you are presented with a "dumping" price for your flight. The company will use any legal means to raise as much money as possible during and AFTER your reservation to make a profit. Given this scheme of things you get INSANE penalty charges for not abiding their rules and their employees (who work often as temporary employee) are requested by the management to apply those rules stricly.

INSANITY FOR PROFIT. In no particular order this is a list og the extra charges you won't find listed on the front price of the flight that are usually included in a real non low-cost company ticket:

• Administration Fee 
• Cargo Baggage 
• Check In Fees
• Credit Card Fees - Cabin Baggage (when outside of their nazi specs)
• Sport Equipment 
• Flight Insurance
• Special Seats on Board
• Priority Boarding (You jump the cue to the gate and then take EXACTLY the same plane as everybody else).
• Airport Taxes 
• Boarding Card Printing Fee
• Flight change Fees

Proposed insane fees 

• Overweight passenger fee
• Disabled person extra fee
• Bathroom access fee
• Feet Standing Places (instead of seats).

I could discuss hours about those additions/changes but for the sake of brevity: don't get caught with the pants down! Don't forget to print your boarding card: 60€/60£ (Estimated cost  a sheet of paper is 0,006€ a piece. Ryanair) - Don't Fail to pass Nazi-check of cabin baggage at the gate: 60€/51£ (Wizzair)

BELKIN ed ALICE ADSL

Come settare il modem Belkin per alice adsl.

Ho avuto qualche problema e sono sicuro di non essere stato l'unico. Infatti il modem / route della belkin arriva con una configurazione sbagliaticcia ;)

Per mettere le cose a posto entrate nella schermata di gestione del router e alla voce "Internet WAN" settate questi parametri:

Connection Type: PPPoE
Username: aliceadsl
Password: aliceadsl
Service Name: Alice ADSL
IP Assigned by ISP: YES
VPI/VCI: 8 / 35 -- Questo è il parametro sbagliato di serie
Encapsulation: LLC
MTU: 1454

Una volta impostato questi settaggi il router funzionerà correttamente. In caso contrario vedrete nella pagina info che si stabilisce la connessione ADSL ma anche che non viene rilasciato un IP pubblico.

Forzare le installazioni sulla memoria esterna (sd) in Android

Metto questo post più o meno come un reminder a me stesso, ma magari serve pure a qualcuno di voi, specie a quelli che hanno il primo HTC Desire oppure il Nexus One che sono notoriamente scarsi in termini di memoria interna.

Forzare la installazione di tutte o quasi le applicazioni sulla memoria esterna è abbastanza facile. Basta disporre di un cellulare con Froyo e di un Terminale. Non è necessario avere il ROOT del dispositivo.

nota bene, i widget sono particolarmente allergici a questa procedura.

2. Procedere e digitare direttamente nel programma terminale la seguente stringa:
3. "pm setInstallLocation 2"
4. Prima di installare i widgets (con il market o da apk) ricordarsi di rientrare nel programma e disabilitare la costrizione con "pm setInstallLocation 0"

Come leggere le mail "In Contatto" gratis e da computer

Quando si fa una ricarica online o per altri motivi quali messaggi in segreteria ci viene inviato un SMS criptico dal testo: "E-mail da Shop 3 ricevuta il ... Chiami il 4133 o acceda a In Contatto".

Accedere "In Contatto" costa l'accesso al Portale3 (9cent a pagina!!!) e chamare il numero 4133 costa come una chiamata a cellulare 3. Entrambe le soluzioni per leggere un messaggio presumibilmente inutile mi sono sembrate inaccetabili.

Mi sono chiesto per mesi come fare. Ho persino chiesto alla assistenza di TRE senza ottenere una risposta. Cercando ieri su internet ho trovato quello che cercavo in questo post.

Il sistema per leggere le mail della tre GRATIS e da computer è:

1) Accedere al sito http://webmail.tre.it
2) Inserire il proprio numero con davanti il numero 39 (quindi un 393.5553333 diventa 393935553333)
3) La password è il PIN originale della sim. Se lo avete perso potete recuperarlo dalla pagina della assistenza clienti.

I messaggi dello shop tre sono tutti uguali tra di loro, quelli della segreteria hanno nel mittente il numero di telefono che vi ha chiamato e come allegato troverete il file wav con la registrazione del messaggio.

Spero che sia utile per quelli che ancora cercano la soluzione! Certo se la Tre informasse gli operatori del callcenter di questa procedura sarebbe stato meglio.

SC card per Cellulari, attenzione alle sòle.

Salve, un piccolissimo post per coloro che usano i cellulari con le schede di memoria micro SD o micro SDHC.

Non tutte le schede sono uguali! Anche io so questo ma per fare un po di più ho testato le schede in mio possesso ed ho fatto una bruttissima esperienza. Ci sono in vendita nei centri commerciali delle schede che riportano informazioni FALSE! Quindi un po di attenzione quando comprate per non finire come sono finito io (con la fregatura diciamo). Bisogna prestare molta attenzione a questi dettagli, potreste finire con il comprare addirittura una scheda SD con la mem

oria taroccata e questo porta a perdita di dati (dice di essere 32Gb ed in realtà è 8Gb)!!!

Interessante sopratutto il confronto tra le Kingston in mio possesso, una delle due infatti è risultata addirittura farlocca!

I test sono stati condotti con Windows7 64bit e HD Tune che trovate a questo indirizzo (http://www.hdtune.com/)

Scheda Kingston Vera (la migliore per velocità)

Kingston SDHC 4GB Classe 4. Il test riporta una velocità di 16 Mb/sec. Non male per una scheda, in teoria la rende utilizzabile anche con videocamere fullHD. Notate le scritte e come differiscono dalla scheda successiva che è chiaramente un falso.

"Kingsten" - Micro SDHC - Presunta Classe 4 - Falsa

Ecco una bella sòla. Questa scheda pur dicendo di essere una Kingston SDHC ha una velocità di lettura decisamente inferiore. Come mai può essere successo questo? Non vorrei sbagliarmi ma mi sembra proprio che questa scheda venga fornita dalla HTC come accessorio per un cellulare DESIRE. Notate le scritte ed il codice seriale che è stampato sotto le medesime, pessimo segno di contraffazione.

DIKOM 8GB -SDHC - Presunta Classe 6 - Confezione e scritte ingannevoli a danno del consumatore.

Altro clamoroso esempio di mistificazione. Questa è stata comprata al Panorama del CC Roma Est. Mentre non si trovano indicazioni relative alla velocità sulla scatola osservando la scheda (visibile nella confezione) notiamo la dicitura CL6 il che indicherebbe una scheda di Classe6 anche se il logo è difforme, infatti quello ufficiale è un mezzo circolo che circonda il numero di classe. Fosse realmente una classe 6 avrebbe una velocità di scrittura minima di 12Mb/sec mentre qui ci troviamo davanti a un prodotto inferiore con una velocità di LETTURA di 10Mb/sec. Il costo della scheda è ridotto ma dato l'uso che mi proponevo di farne si risolve in 20€ buttati.

INTEGRAL Micro SD - 2Gb - 12,4Gb/sec.

Onesta scheda di memoria comprata all'AUCHAN del CC Porta di Roma per 9€. Assolve la sua funzione di Backup per la mia Canon in maniera discreta. Di interessante c'è il codice seriale impresso sulla scheda che è molto simile a quello trovato sulla falsa Kingston; non penso sia un caso visto che la Integral è molto probabilmente un importatore di materiale cinese di seconda qualità (Almeno non cercano di truffare nessuno).

SANDISK - MicroSDHC - 2Gb - 9,8Gb/Sec.

Onesta scheda di memoria senza troppe pretese, la Classe 2 è quella che praticamente mantiene le specifiche delle schede SD normali. Sembrerebbe essere originale. Il codice impresso sulla scheda in questo caso è verticale comela scritta del produttore.

Morale: La qualità si paga e nei centri commerciali non ce ne è abbastanza.
